How this guide works
This guide compares brand and marketing options for established businesses in Toowoomba and across the Darling Downs. Zelexis wrote it and works with Downs businesses in person, so we say so plainly and list ourselves first. Every other option is described from its own public website, checked on the date shown, and assessed against the same criteria.
We follow the principles in the ACCC’s guide for comparator websites: compare like with like, be open about commercial relationships, and be clear about who and what is being compared.
How every option was assessed
- Based in Toowoomba, or meeting Toowoomba clients in person
- Offers brand, design, website or marketing services for established businesses
- Publishes work or describes its clients openly
- States clearly who it works with and what it offers
A strong local market
Toowoomba has long been, in the words of Queensland Places, a major centre for commerce, industry and education for the Darling Downs, and its creative and marketing businesses reflect that. Several established local teams offer branding, graphic design, websites, print, signage, video and ongoing marketing, and work with regional businesses, schools, councils and agricultural clients.
Choosing by the problem
The right choice depends on what the business needs. A local creative agency suits a business wanting a broad creative partner for identity, print, signage and web design. A local marketing and design team suits a business that wants steady, ongoing marketing and advertising support. A strategy-led studio suits a business competing for clients beyond the Downs, where buyers in Brisbane, interstate or government judge it from its website and documents before they meet.
It is common for a Toowoomba business with an excellent local reputation to present itself as a local supplier when it competes for regional and state contracts. If that sounds familiar, start with the position.
Questions to ask any option
Ask each option how it will learn about your business and clients, who will do the work, what you will receive, what it will cost and what is excluded, and who will own the finished work. Ask the local options how they work with clients outside Toowoomba, and ask any studio from elsewhere how often it will meet you in person.
A useful next step
Something to try this week.
Write down the three clients you would most like to win in the next year and where they are based. If most are outside Toowoomba, ask each option how it would present your business to buyers who have never visited. If most are local, a local creative or marketing team may suit best.
