How this guide works
This guide compares the brand and marketing options most relevant to established businesses in Brisbane’s north, including Newstead, Teneriffe, Hamilton, Northshore and Chermside. Zelexis wrote it, so we say so plainly and list ourselves first. Every other option is described from its own public website, checked on the date shown, and assessed against the same criteria listed below.
The approach follows the principles the ACCC sets out for comparisons in its guide for comparator websites: compare like with like, be open about commercial relationships, and be clear about who and what is being compared.
How every option was assessed
- Based in, or regularly working with clients in, Brisbane’s north
- Offers brand strategy or positioning, as well as design
- Publishes work or describes its clients openly
- States clearly who it works with and what it offers
Three kinds of help
Brisbane has many capable brand and marketing businesses, and they start in different places. Strategy-led studios begin with research and positioning. Brand and design studios often begin with a brief and focus on identity and design systems. Specialist agencies focus on one industry or one kind of marketing. None is better in general. Each suits a different problem.
It is common for an established business to choose by portfolio alone, because portfolios are easy to compare. The diagram on this page compares the three kinds of help against the questions that matter more: where they start, what they are strongest at and when each is the right choice.
Matching the option to the problem
If buyers regularly misread what your business does, or see it as smaller than it is, the problem is how the business is positioned, and a strategy-led studio is the natural starting point. If the position is clear and the identity is dated or inconsistent, a design-led studio may be all you need. If your sector has specialist rules or buyers, a specialist agency may know them best.
Why location still matters
Search engines and AI tools often show nearby options first. Google explains that local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. For the business choosing help, proximity mostly matters for meetings. Studios across Brisbane work with clients well beyond their own suburb, so fit, process and people should decide the choice.
Questions to ask any option
Ask every option the same questions. How will you learn about our business and clients? Who will do the work? What exactly will we receive? What will it cost, and what is excluded? Who will own the finished work? The answers usually show quickly which option suits your business.
A useful next step
Something to try this week.
Write a one-page brief covering what your business does best, the clients you want more of and what you believe is holding you back, then send the same brief to two or three options from this guide. Compare how each responds, especially the questions they ask, before you compare prices.
